NACHATROOM.ORG - Service Opportunities

"I don't see how this hospital is good for health, all I see are diseases and injuries here!"

If you are interested in chairing meetings, please familiarize yourself with our chatroom rules. We have flexible clean time requirements. Our Trusted Servants are expected to have a history of being friendly with their new friends and welcoming our visitors.

Volunteers are expected to be non-confrontational: "Work the steps or die MF'er" and "brimstone and fire" pep talks are not conducive towards the desired atmosphere here. It chases people out of here. We'll discuss this with you when we bring you on board.

We acknowledge you may have several (or even many) years of experience working with others in your home group, and we're glad you're here.

This website opened its doors as in 2006 and here's what we know so far:

In a face to face meeting of NA, people have already decided they may have a problem, figured out where a meeting was, and decided to show up. The newcomer in an NA meeting is already 1,000 miles ahead of a first time visitor to NACHATROOM.ORG.

Online, people may not yet accept they have a problem. They may still be blaming others or questioning whether their drug use is a problem. This may even be their first / only experience of NA. We talk about what works for us. We encourage them to find and go to that meeting.

We cannot sit here begging people to go to meetings or giving them advice on other subjects we are unqualified to give advice for.

A successful moderator learns how to let go of results and not be upset or burned out or bitter that your efforts do not always lead to people attending NA or staying clean.

We can't sit here and scold every visitor who doesn't fit into this mold. However we do have higher expectations for those who wish to join the staff.

Public infighting or open disrespect between moderators is absolutely not tolerated and grounds for demotion. Take your disagreements with eachother privately.

We will not consider individuals whom we have had to repeatedly ban from the chatroom for disruptive conduct until they have attained six months clean AND they have not been banned from the chatroom for at least as long.

Moderators are promoted from chairpersons who have put in the time and the effort and shown us that they are patient and do not abuse privileges as they are granted.

Part of being a successful moderator or chairperson here, is the ability to exercise as much compassion and tolerance as we can manage. This may require putting up with people you do not personally like, so long as they can follow the rules.

Your motivation must be helping others. Not "getting to ban people."

Banning people is bad, mmmmkay?
